Press Release

Enabling the tracking of container movements at CYs and on land, including CY gate-in/gate-out and empty container returns.

MonCargo Inc. (Shibuya, Tokyo; CEO: Ayana Goto) has launched the beta version of its new "Container Event Tracking" feature within its container tracking SaaS, MonCargo, as of Monday, March 17, 2025. While MonCargo has previously focused on port-to-port tracking, this new feature enhances visibility into container-level transportation progress on land and at container yards (CYs).

What is the Container Event Tracking Feature?

The Container Event Tracking feature provides real-time visibility into container movements at container yards and terminals. Previously, MonCargo primarily tracked Estimated Time of Departure (ETD) and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for port-to-port shipments. With this new feature, users can now manage container-specific events such as CY gate-in, gate-out, and empty container returns.

The system automatically retrieves and visualizes key event data to improve logistics efficiency:

  • Empty Release: Empty container handover to the shipper
  • Gate In: Container entry into the container yard (CY)
  • Gate Out: Container departure from the CY towards the consignee
  • Empty Return: Return of empty containers

Background of the Development

Accurately tracking container movements is crucial for optimizing transportation and cost management in international logistics. Traditionally, managing container movements required manually checking data across multiple shipping lines and related systems, resulting in significant workload and inefficiencies. Additionally, as the number of containers increases, tracking their statuses becomes more challenging, leading to unexpected costs due to pickup or return delays.

To address these challenges, MonCargo has developed an automated container event tracking feature. By leveraging this functionality, trade and logistics professionals can reduce their workload while improving operational efficiency and accuracy.

About the Invite-Only Beta Version

The invite-only beta version will be available free of charge for approximately two months starting Monday, March 17, 2025. Selected companies will be contacted directly by MonCargo for further details. User feedback from this beta phase will help refine the feature and expand support to additional shipping lines ahead of the official release.

※ Invites will be sent sequentially to eligible companies.

Future Prospects

Through this beta release, MonCargo aims to gather user feedback and refine the feature before its official launch. If demand is high, support will be expanded beyond ONE to additional shipping lines.

MonCargo remains committed to user-first development, continually enhancing logistics efficiency through innovative services.

About MonCargo: Visualizing Container Tracking

MonCargo is a cloud-based service that enables automated vessel and container tracking. By simply registering a booking number, B/L number, or container number, users can monitor and centrally manage ETD, ETA, and vessel status.

Users receive automated notifications for shipment status updates, and the link-sharing feature facilitates seamless information sharing with stakeholders. Additionally, API integration allows for further streamlining of logistics operations through internal system integration.

For shippers and freight forwarders managing multiple shipping lines, tracking and communication can be time-consuming. MonCargo eliminates the need for manual tracking, significantly reducing the operational burden with automated tracking.
